Meatdad Tony came in clutch with these delicious pulled pork sandwiches! If you're from the South like us, then you already know that pulled pork sandwiches are a staple of the American South, great for any picnic, party, or meal with the family. In fact, these were a request from the kiddos. This particular recipe is not only exceptionally delicious but also very economical. This pork picnic only cost us $.79/lb at Costco. This cut is sometimes overlooked but we are here to tell ya… you don’t have to break the bank to make these delicious puller pork sandwiches!
Ingredients
-
Infidel Pork Rub
-
Sailor Jerry Ironsides BBQ Sauce
-
Pork Picnic, ours is approx. 8 pounds
-
Whiskey Smoked Sea Salt
-
Apple Cider Vinegar
-
1 Package of Hawaiian Rolls (12 pack)
Directions
Take your Pork Picnic Roast and slice thin lines 1” apart all the way across the roast and then do the same 1” spaced cuts perpendicular to the ones you just made.
Season your Pork Picnic Roast with Whiskey Smoked Salt on both sides
Then hit it with some Infidel Pork Rub
Place your Pork Picnic Roast in your roasting pan and cover with foil and throw it in the oven at 250° for 6 hours
Pull the foil off and crank it up to 400° for 90 minutes
Pull the Roast out of the oven and let it stand until cool enough to work with. Once cool, start pulling a part the roast into bite sized pieces. We use our hands for this part but if you got the claw things, go for it.
We like to add a splash of Apple Cider Vinegar and more Infidel Pork Rub at this step. Season to taste (this is your chance to sneak some bites before everyone else devours it but make sure not to get caught!)
Once we’ve pulled the pork a part and seasoned to taste, we add in the Sailor Jerry Ironsides BBQ Sauce!
Mix in the seasoning and sauce throughly (again… we use our hands!)
Take our your Hawaiian Rolls and cut them in half, use a good knife to do this or you’ll rip them to shreds
Spread your Pork over the bun bottoms and then put the buns tops on’em and serve!
Better make sure and get your plate ready first before you tell anyone else or you might not get any!
